Alfredo Morales

Software engineer and product builder based in Chicago.

I build and maintain production systems around payments, payroll workflows, and reliability. I learn by shipping real tools, fixing what breaks, and supporting users.

I built a payroll calculator that 25+ airline workers paid in production.

25+ Paying Users

In 2023, I was manually calculating my take-home pay every two weeks at O'Hare Airport. Our legacy timecard system showed raw hours, but converting that into actual pay required tracking 15+ different pay codes, shift differentials, overtime rules, and double-time thresholds.

I built a JavaScript tool that scrapes the timecard system and calculates everything instantly. Coworkers saw me using it and asked for copies. Eventually 25+ people paid for it through word-of-mouth.

Radiating Warmth

Production Live

Booking and payment system for a tarot reader. Handles real Stripe transactions with proper webhook idempotency, monotonic payment state transitions, and email deduplication. Currently, processing payments in production.

I built it with Laravel 12 and deployed it on shared hosting with rollback capability. Found and fixed real bugs after launch (reminder spam, payment state issues). Includes admin panel with Filament v4 for business operations.

Background

Alfredo Morales is a software engineer and product builder based in Chicago. I’m self-taught, coding since I was young and getting serious once I started building real projects—internal tools for coworkers at O’Hare Airport and production systems that handle real money and real users. My focus is payments, payroll, reliability, and internal tools.

My approach is simple: understand the problem, design the system, deploy carefully, and fix what breaks. I use modern tools (including AI), but I’m responsible for the architecture, the tradeoffs, and what ships to production.
